This is the third article on the topic of our military issue body armor for combat troops. In the first two sections below you see a video of a test done by the Discover Network. The second video is a complete NBC Dateline segment by Lisa Myers. Both are dedicated to the apparent discrepancy between the Army’s version of Pinnacle Armors ‘Dragon Skin’ armor and the standard issue Interceptor system.
After an hour on the phone with Roger Charles, the President of Soldiers for Truth a non-profit founded by Col. David Hackworth , I realize it is much more than a simple testing question. It is a question of potentially deliberate actions to cause the Dragon Skin failure. If it is deliberate then who is responsible? Is it the Army personnel? Is it the Congressional Armed Services committee that supported Interceptor in the face of non-military testing that showed it far superior. I’ve spoken today with contacts on the Hill and planted some very quiet questions. More information will be coming.
For example ,in the Dateline video’s below you will see the Brig. General Mark Brown comment that the Dragon Skin had 13 failures out of 48 shots. Per Roger Charles, General Brown neglects to mention that 8 of those failures were shots into the side of the torso where it is protected by Kevlar and not intended to stop rifle shots. He also neglects to admit that the Interceptor armor has no (zero) side protection unless specially modified by adding ceramic plates at the soldiers or Marines personal cost. He also does not tell us at what temperature was the ‘failure’ reported. There may be evidence of deliberate sabotage of the test by heating the Dragon Skin to perhaps 300F. Time will tell if that happened or can be proven.
The GAO has issued a report recommending outside independent testing of all armor components. That report is reportedly highly critical of the current process. I will have a full copy soon.
More information is coming in waves. I’m not going to just let this topic go. We need major media attention focused on the potential scandal’s and the horrifying possibility that our government sent our warriors, men and women, into harms way knowing they had substandard body protection.
More soon.
