Today is Feb. 21. 2010. This NBC investigation was aired on May 20, 2007. Yes, it was aired by NBC Dateline on May 20 2007. To my knowledge Dragon Skin still has been banned from Army use. Yet I know for a fact, and Lisa Myers confirms, that CIA paramilitary and Spec Op’s warriors use them. Why? Watch this report, in two videos, for the answer.
Myers also uncovers information about potential misconduct by military officers that may have undermined the Dragon Skin testing process. One of the officers involved is now employed by the manufacturer of the Interceptor body armor. The Army, Brown reports, didn’t think that was a conflict of interest. Watch as General Mark Brown, the man in charge of body armor in 2007, doesn’t answer her questions. Even the inventor of Interceptor body armor says that if he were ordered to Iraq today he would wear Dragon Skin body armor.
In the second half of Myers Dateline report NBC commissions independent testing of the current body armor called Interceptor and Dragon Skin body armor under laboratory conditions by a international independent ballistics specialist company. You can watch the results for yourself.
Importantly, Notice how the Dragon Skin wraps itself around the body of the trooper. It is the specific solution to the problem I described in my first report that many injuries are caused by a lack of coverage on the side of the body. Mention of the significance of that design solution is missing from the Dateline report. Also missing from mention is the fact that Dragon Skin is much lighter than Interceptor. Given that our troops may be wearing 60-80 pounds of armor and gear that weight is very significant.
I will be contacting Pinnacle Armor tomorrow to gather more information. By the way this report mentions Soldiers for Truth, an organization started by Col. David Hackworth with the avowed mission of protecting our troops. The ‘grunts’ Hackworth called them. He was perhaps the greatest soldier of his time. I will also be contacting them as well. They’ve been waging this battle about Dragon Skin armor for years. They were the one’s that brought it my attention years ago. I’ve just found that they are off the web and only have a Facebook page. If anyone knows the former President Roger Charles please have him contact me at www.twitter.com/stuart_oneill or email me.
